Heather Jacobson asked:

Camcorders are a great addition to any home because they allow you to capture those precious memories that a still camera just cannot do justice for. Luckily, most of the camcorders on the market today are very simple to use and enable the user to simply point and shoot and the rest is done for the user! Camcorders have come a long way in the last 10 to 15 years, becoming more affordable and easy for just about any user to utilize in the way that they want.

Recording Your Short Candid Videos with Ease

If you would like to record a short candid video of the family or of a vacation or sporting event you will find that it is quite easy. The first thing you will need to do is power up your video camera and remove any cover that may be over the lens. At this point you should check the battery power, as you want to ensure that you have enough power to record everything you want. Next, you will need to check that you have a disc or tape that has enough recordable space on it for the amount of time that you plan to record.

At this point you can simply hit record and point the camera at the object that you would like to record. When you are shooting with a camcorder you should always be aware of a light. If you are inside you may need to open curtains or turn on a light and if you are shooting film in the dark you may need an artificial light source to help illuminate what you are recording.

Most camcorders today do not require you to actually put the camera up to your eye to see what is being recorded, instead there are often screens that will allow you to see exactly what is being recorded. This is helpful because you can see what is truly being recorded and you can also look around more easily to ensure that you are getting all the footage that you want. Remember that when you talk when you are recording with a camcorder that your voice will also be picked up as you are right next to the microphone.

When you are done shooting your candid video you simply need to stop recording and then turn the power off. Many different camcorders come with software that will allow you to place different graphics on the video if you would like, which can be a lot of fun. You can either take the disc or tape out of the camcorder or you can leave it in there to add to a tape at a later date. Recording with camcorders today really is very straight forward and they can provide a great way to look back on experiences in the future.

Gill Critchley asked:

Camcorders are great gadgets to have as they allow the user to record moments that they would like to remember and watch again and again. Due to this love of camcorders, there are now many different makes and models available, some at very reasonable prices, so many more people can enjoy recording days and events that they want to retain in their memory. One of the most popular models is the Sony Handycam HDR-SR11. This camcorder is a top-of-the-range model that sells for around £750 and is considered one of the best hard drive models. This is a Sony camcorder that has had face recognition added to its list of features and this helps the camcorder then set the exposure and the focus. The x.v.Colour is still included in Sony camcorders and this is their name for the xvYCC colour space. The SR11 also comes with a remote control that makes a positive difference to the colour of the picture if you hook up the camcorder to your TV. This Sony camcorder also includes Picture Motion software. This lets you view your footage and make basic modifications to it. Another camcorder that’s out at the moment is the Canon FS100 and this is priced around the £250 mark so it is a lot more affordable. As Canon camcorders go, this model has very high quality looks regardless of its low price. This Canon is small and stylish and also has an expansive feature set, however, the reason for this device being so cheap is due to the quality of its video, the footage is not as clear as on some camcorders.

Due to many people wanting to record their precious memories, camcorders have become very popular. The colour space used in Sony camcorders is called x.v.Colour. As Canon camcorders go, this model has a small and sleek design for a very affordable price.

Sony DCR HC38E camcorder comes with powerful zoom lenses. It has the optical zoom of 40 x and digital zoom of 80/2000 x. It sports Carl Zeiss Vario-Tessar Lens with the filter diameter of 30 mm. Optical zoom is a feature that alters a camcorders focal length, filling more of the frame within the subject. An optical zoom lens actually moves in and out of the camcorder. Unlike a digital zoom, an optical zoom will not reduce the resolution of your video; moreover it helps you to concentrate on the subject of the video to be shot. This camcorder also brings a faraway object nearer and hence is useful in shooting videos of flora and fauna or anything that is moving. Whereas a digital zoom is software inside the camcorder that enlarges subject in the video to be shot. Cooper asked:

A camcorder is a portable device that is capable of recording videos and taking still photographs. But aside from the cold science of it, a camcorder lets you catch those special moments such as your baby’s first steps or a wedding.

When you start looking for a camcorder, you could feel slightly overwhelmed with all of the choice. Because of this, it is worth having a little understanding about what it is you are looking for. There are many components in the camcorder that need to be taken into account including; the type, Battery, Optical/Digital Zoom, Lens Quality and Size.

Type – A Camcorder comes in with many types according to the type and quality of the recording media it uses. A Hi-8 Camcorder will be a good option if you want something cheaper and one that records 8mm cassette tapes. If you are looking for compatibility with a DVD player go for DVD or MiniDV camcorder. The ones who look for editing their videos on a computer can choose a hard disk or a memory card Camcorder that offers direct connectivity with a computer through USB 2.0. A High Definition Camcorder truly the friend of professionals offers every recording media with a very high video quality as well as still photography.

Battery – A long battery life is key so that it doesn’t cut out and miss something important. Be aware that higher capacity batteries will weigh more.

Optical/Digital Zoom – The quality and range of the zoom is a factor if you are going to be wanting to record from distance. There are a wide range of zoom combinations available and it is worth talking with a sales representative in the store about your needs in this area.

Lens Quality – The quality of the lens is key to a sharp image. May of the different brands have their top lens brands for example, Sony offers Carl Zeiss Lens, Samsung features Schneider Kreuznach Lenses and Panasonic offers Leica Lens.

Size – What do you want your camcorder for? Will you just be using it at home or are you about to embark on a round the world trip. This should be taken into consideration so that you can choose an appropriate size.

It is worth taking some time to consider the above points before you start visiting stores so that you have a clearer idea about what you are looking for when you arrive.

I was recording something with the charger plugged in, and I am not sure what happened but I heard some sort of quick sizzle sound and now whenever I plug anything into the port the camera turns off. I have gotten a separate battery charger but is my port now forever useless? Is this common? Do you have any idea how it could have happened?

How You Can Benefit By Having A Digital Camcorder Hard Drive

Wednesday, June 11th, 2008

Corbin Newlyn asked:

If in the past you were working with the older types of the digital camcorders, and have been having difficulty of exchanging the tape frequently enough, with the newer technology there is no longer any need of it. Digital camcorders now are equipped with hard drives; you can easily just save the entire movie, or several of them if you wish, while not having to delete the prior ones, or even exchanging each and every instance of you finishing one movie.

This hard drive is like a computer hard drive; as a matter of fact they are a great deal similar to a laptop hard drive in relation to physical appearance, capacity, physical size or features. This was invented due to the fact that previously you needed to exchange the tapes primarily every hour when their space was depleted. With this new digital camcorder hard drive, up to 240 hours of raw movie photographic film can be held inside the camera.

Benefits Of Technology

The most beneficial part of it is that you can just merely transfer the entire file by way of FireWire or USB 2.0 in specific instances to your PC to be altered etc. The transfer rate relies upon the kind of transfer you are utilizing; USB more often than not requires a more extensive time frame than FireWire.

In the past, camcorders which had this internal hard drive were produced exclusively by JVC, Panasonic and Sony, only today with increasing popularity as well as demand, there are numerous additional manufacturers in the market designing more modern and improved models. When the digital camcorder hard drive was initially introduced onto the market, the capacity was just about 20 to 30 Gigabytes. But presently, there are hard drive sizes all the way up to 60 Gigabytes. Nevertheless, nearly all of the high end ones are really costly, and not very common.

As a consequence of having a hard drive for your camcorder as the primary storage system, in specific instances, image quality has to be compromised, implying that it has restricted storage size in comparison to other kinds of camcorders employing different video data formats such as the MiniDV and so on.

But in spite of this disadvantage, this kind of camcorder is nevertheless very much preferred, since with an incorporated digital camcorder hard drive, transferring is quicker than with other devices; due to the fact of the smaller video size because of diminished quality and technological progress such as FireWire etc.. However, a digital camcorder hard drive still favorably compares to all the lower end storage system such as the tapeless system, in which you have a compressed video format like the MPEG-4 and so on.
